A crucial step to success

» View pages in this section

Communication is key to the success of any participation activity, but even more so for online methods. Remember you are not only asking people to get involved, but you are also asking them to try out a new method.

It's crucial to ensure that online tools can both deliver promised results, as well as make sense to people who are taking part, through clearly written and thought out copy. It's equally important that you clearly communicate why people would want to get involved, and how they can get involved, in all promotion activity.

As well as online communiations tools, you need to rely on traditional communications methods, from PR, to print advertising, to posters and flyers - especially if you hope to attract stakeholders who are not already engaged.

Online methods can also help drive stakeholders who are already eEngaged to participate. Methods you could choose include:

  • email alerts and e-bulletins can ensure that the people whose views you want are aware of what, how and when they can contribute.
  • instant messaging via emails enables live discussions with people who are geographically distant.
