Citizen participation - from offline traditional consultations and meetings, to online forums and polls, is crucial to help organisations tailor their services to meet local needs. It also provides a bridge between the organisation and its stakeholders and an opportunity to develop common goals.

To meet the ever developing demands of new technology and public demand, it is important to consider eParticipation approaches. However these need to be considered as part of a broader and more integrated participation/democracy strategy, rather than as stand-alone projects.

A successful strategy should encompass a mixture of both eEnabled and more traditional engagement methods and tools. This ensures a more inclusive and tailored strategy towards engaging a wider and more diverse audience in the policy-making process.

This section gives you a little more background to the need to strike such a balance and the potential benefits this will deliver.
